Inspiration
Painting allows me to combine the joy of making things with the appreciation of the beauty of the world. I love the process of engaging with a subject - an abandoned barn, a still life, or the beaches of South Carolina. I seek to capture the energy of a place or a scene in colorful oils.
Techniques
I paint with brushes, palette knives and other things - razor blades, sponges - really anything that holds paint is fair game. Trying new things is always part of the fun. I like to paint in plein air (on location), as spending time in a place allows me to really observe. I look to capture things like light and color in a small study that I can take back to my studio, and use these studies to inform larger works.
